Karate Kobudo Renmei Taikai

The 10th Annual All Okinawa Karate Kobudo Renmei Competition was held on the 8th December 2013 at Okinawa Kokusai Daigaku. (Okinawa International University.) Akamine Kaicho represented the Shimbukan Dojo as an official while Chinen Sensei officiated as a judge.

It did seem that there were fewer competitors this year, especially in the weapons sections of the competition. Perhaps next year we can have more members of the association take part. Late November, early December is a lovely time to visit Okinawa as the weather is mild but still fine enough to enjoy the sights. (Just a tiny hint to our overseas members as well as those based in mainland Japan.)

Kazu Akamine participated in the Adult Male Bo competition. He did very well, but unfortunately touched the ground with the Bo and had points removed. Sam Chambers of Australia took part in the Adult Women's Sai competition. She too did extremely well and was narrowly beaten by one of Shiroma Sensei's students.

All in all it was an enjoyable competition and a chance to catch up with practitioners of other styles.
